Since 2007, HOCHTIEF along with consortium partners has been constructing Quartier 21 on the site of the former Barmbek Hospital—a district designed to meet the needs of all age groups for multiple uses. The pavilion-style units of the former hospital were expanded into modern apartment buildings and supplemented with new construction. Quartier 21 combines rentals and condominiums for families with attractive offices, seniors’ apartments, and a nursing home. What’s more, the former water tower now houses a day care center and wellness oasis. Residents benefit from a broad range of health facilities, services, and various local businesses. The urban development also offers plenty of opportunities for leisure with a varied selection of restaurants—a successful mix that meets all the needs of daily life.
